Well the 1st BIG party of the season up here on the North Coast rolled into town as Ohio Bike Week kicked out the PARTY Red Carpet in Sandusky OH. Starting May 27th; it’s 10 days of Bikes, Babes, Bands, Babes, Beer, Babes and just a general kick-ass GOOD time.
I was ridin’ solo as I checked into the event on the 1st weekend to pick up the press creds and eyeball the scene; which is centered at Mad River Harley Davidson. Seriously KILLER good time with bikes by the hundreds, vendors of EVERY type and kind, of course.
Warnert Racing brought their BADASS, one-of-a-kind pickup to display (check the photo!). David Allen Coe was the night’s head-liner on the Mad River stage and he did his usual fantastic job of workin’ the crowd up with his tuneage AND “adult” commentary!
Ducked back to the homeplace in Y-town then Me and my ever-lovin’ partner in crime, Kelly, headed back up on Friday for the 2nd weekend. Once we got back into Sandusky we made a bee-line for Margaritaville; to get our party started. Sittin’ just south of Sandusky proper, this bar turns it up to 11 during Bike Week and is a DO NOT MISS! Tony and crew had the place jumpin’ with vendors, bikes and some SERIOUSLY good lookin’ wait staff! The band was rockin’ the place with some classic country so Kelly and I said our “howdys” to Tony, grabbed some drinks and got our weekend started in fine style. Shout out to Jim and TJ from ABATE of Ohio who were manning the raffle bike booth.
We hit the road from Margaritaville, went and checked into our hotel then cruised to the center of ALL the action on the 2nd weekend; the Downtown Block Party! Sandusky opens up its downtown and historic pier area to the event and the high times NEVER stop. Now, we meet all our Internet Radio Show fans and friends at the Bud Pop-Up Bar behind the stage. Jason and his ladies keep the beer ICE cold and the liquor flowing! Met a bunch of ol’ friends, drank a “few” libations (2 Bottles of Jack and 1 Crown) and jammed with one of the BEST Rock n’ Roll bands on the planet; Grand Funk Railroad!
Saturday we did the “Rise and Shine” and headed back downtown. Stopped into the Leaking Boot, which has some of the BEST French Fries on the planet, grabbed an early afternoon bite and then did our tour of the downtown hot-spots and vendors. I think we took more pictures with fans then we’ve EVER taken ourselves; we Thank You ALL very much for your continued support! Ducked over to the Main Stage to listen to one partyin’ bands, Tight Wadd! We headed back to the Jager stage area; we’d been asked to introduce Bluesman Extraordinaire, Michael Weber, and his Michael Weber Show band to the HUGE crowd gathered downtown. Took care of business and did some “Live” Facebook interviews and broadcasts then went over to the newly-renovated Jack Daniel’s Barrel House to get our Loud and Proud Rock on with the QUEEN of Motorcycle Metal, Jasmine Cain!
Unfortunately we were not able to make it out to the Broken Spoke Saloon and Campground located at the Erie County Fairgrounds. RV and tent camping was available; the Saloon was pouring fast and furious and the entertainment featured diverse music from the likes of John Michael Montgomery and Mushroomhead!!
Got up Sunday, grabbed a bite and we headed back to the domestic domicile. Ohio Bike Week is an event NOT to miss and if you ain’t done it yet…put it on YOUR “Biker Bucket List”. MUCH thanks to the man behind this party, Steve Earnst and ALL his amazing crew for bringing off another great event! We’re headin’ to Thunder In The Valley in Johnstown PA next so stay tuned. Keep it between the ditches, y’all; we’ll catch up with ya again soon!
